Hi! My name is Andrea Avalos. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor. I received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Ministry from American Indian College of the Assemblies of God in 1998. I believe everyone has their own unique life experiences. These experiences shape who we are and how we respond in the present. I offer a safe place for client to explore, and process, memories, thoughts, and emotions.
I am trained in EMDR therapy and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy skills.
I am a proud affiliate of Christian Counseling Services.
I am under the direct supervision of Jennifer Cecil, M.Ed., LPC.
I believe most individuals' symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hopelessness, fear of rejection, low self-esteem, and many other symptoms are connected to
. My goal is to assist clients with finding the root cause, receive healing, and walk in lasting change.
Proverbs 29:18 says, "where there is no vision, the people perish." My vision is to help others restore hope and renew vision for a better future without the weight of the pain they carry.
I love the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. What once was broken has been restored. The gold lines show the broken pieces. The gold shows healing and restoration. Often, we can feel like there is no hope for healing; that we will always feel broken. My hope is for clients to regain hope for healing and restoration, and assist with mending those parts that feel broken.
Every person's experience is unique. Through individual counseling, we will explore your individual goals and what you hope to achieve through the therapeutic process. Using EMDR, and other approaches, the goal is to find the root of an issue, promote healing, and instill lasting change.
DBT skills are practical tools to manage your emotions, cope with difficult situations, and improve your relationships, by practicing techniques like mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and how to effectively communicate with others, all in a supportive group setting where you can share experiences and get feedback from others

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy that helps people heal from traumatic experiences. Length and frequency of the counseling process varies, depending on individual need and goals. Typically, clients attend weekly. Others may attend bi-weekly or monthly.
I believe each individual has their own spiritual journey. My goal is to understand and respect where you are in this journey. The therapeutic approach may include using scripture and prayer, if the client permits.
I do not accept insurance. Clients are responsible for payment. It is recommended clients check with their insurance for mental health coverage. If client's insurance covers mental health, an invoice may be provided for submission for reimbursement. It is the client's responsibility to check with their insurance to verify coverage and submit any invoices for reimbursement.
